bought a Groupon for my husband for Christmas. After many times trying to reach them to schedule a flight and disconnected numbers or numbers with no voicemail option I called Groupon customer service and spoke with someone. They then called me back saying they had contacted Wings Aloft and assured me that Wings Aloft would contact me within 3 business days. I never received a call. I finally reached someone named Brad at Wings Aloft who told me that their company was moving and their computer system was down. He told me “one of the girls” would call me within a couple days and schedule my flight. Still no response for weeks.

I finally received a call back from Linda I was able to schedule our flight for 4/27. She made it very clear that my now expired Goupon would be honored. My husband and I drove for over an hour to the specified address, emailed by Linda. We then waited for 45 min outside their locked building for our pilot. No one ever showed. We had no indication from them the flight had been cancelled. It was a gorgeous day. Luckily Groupon refunded the amount in full. yelp, Yelp, Username: Thomas H

went with a friend down to Boeing Field: she wanted to fly out to one of the islands to look around and do a scouting trip of sorts, and I suggested that we should go to check out Wings Aloft. We found an instructor who was available, rented a Cessna 172 (in very good condition!) and — as I kept my mouth shut about being a professional pilot and played ignorant, much to the chagrin of my friend — the instructor suggested to her that she use the opportunity to get her first flight lesson. (Not only do I fly the 747, but I have over 34,000 flight hours: as such, the instructor is the leader on this type of flight, though I was a third set of eyes vigilantly watching for other air traffic.)

Her instructor did a very professional job of instructing her — even though my friend came close to letting the cat out of the bag about me being much more experienced than I let on.

      I was thoroughly impressed.

My only less-than-favorable comments: a few of the aircraft need to be washed and degreased; someone needs to run a vacuum through the one we flew; maybe a little Febreze needs to be sprayed on some of the seats.

Nicely run flight school. Staff of instructors seemed very professional and knowledgeable. Nice facility, much improved since its early days. Yelp, Username: Thomas H

I purchased a groupon on Jan 6 intending to use it on January 28 or thereabouts for my boyfriend’s and my anniversary. The groupon was for an introductory flight lesson for one. It is priced at $159. I attempted to contact them by email immediately after purchase, and for a week after that. They never answered their phone and also did not respond to emails. Then I received a call in mid-February from a third party claiming that she was going through a list of clients, because Wings Aloft was moving their offices and would contact everyone after they were finished. I have not heard back since.

The groupon expires on May 6 and I am no longer interested in using it. Our anniversary has come and gone 2 months now. I see that the business continues to advertise this deal. I think this is a disservice to customers; it seems likely that the time limit will pass without us being able to use our deal. They are advertising this deal on Amazon local, groupon, travelzoo and many other sites which seems ridiculous given that it appears very doubtful they can handle the demand.

An introductory flight lesson is fun; I’ve done it before with a company in the San Francisco bay area. However, I highly discourage doing business with Wings Aloft. Do NOT spend your money here! Yelp, Username: Razel, M

What an absolutely wonderful experience!!! My wife purchased an intro flight as an anniversary gift. We put off using it until it was almost expired, and the day I was supposed to fly came, drove to the airport, only to find we screwed up and came on the wrong day! We couldn’t come back on the next available day, but the friendly staff had no problem bumping us out until we COULD fly, even though the certificate had expired. Very nice of them!

Brendan, my instructor, was young, happy, friendly and very knowledgeable. I told him right off this was mostly for fun, so we just had a very short explanation of controls and what we’d be doing – and off we went to the plane (1984 172P) for an inspection and checklist.

Once we hit 800 feet, he gave the yoke to me – OMG!! At first I was a tad nervous, but in just a few minutes I adjusted to controlling the plane and just had a BLAST!! We circled around over the city and bay, and over to the Bainbridge ferry dock. I mentioned I had a friend on the South shore of the island, so he guided me with landmarks to work our way there, dropped down to 800 feet, and I was able to get several photos of my friend’s house. Cool!!!

While I have no interest in getting my license, I very likely will come back just to do this again. Excellent staff, superb instructor (Brendan in my case) and overall a 5-star wonderful experience in every way~!

Thanks Anne for the awesome gift! And thanks to Wings Aloft for making it such a cool day for me! Yelp, Username: Dave

It was quite a while ago (a few years?), however it was a great experience and I would recommend them again and again. Our pilot was friendly, talented and as you’d expect, very professional in the air. Yelp, Username: LM
